Ultium Cells to increase battery manufacturing by 40 p.c in Tennessee plant
Ultium Cells, the battery cell manufacturing three way partnership of LG Vitality Answer and GM, plans to speculate a further $275 million in its Spring Hill, Tennessee plant to increase the ability’s battery cell output by greater than 40 p.c, from 35 GWh to 50 GWh. The corporate put $2.3 billion into the ability in April 2021.
With the extra funding, the capability growth is predicted to create 400 new jobs, bringing the anticipated plant complete to 1,700 jobs when the ability is absolutely operational.
The ability will provide battery cells to GM’s Spring Hill meeting plant for the manufacturing of the Cadillac LYRIQ and different GM Ultium-based EVs.

Manufacturing is predicted to start in late 2023.
“This funding will enable us to supply GM with extra battery cells sooner and help its aggressive EV launch plan within the coming years,” stated Tom Gallagher, Ultium Cells VP of Operations. “Ultium Cells is taking the suitable steps to help GM’s plan for greater than 1 million items of EV capability in North America by mid-decade.”
